Hyper Week

Monday, June 27th

Going to be a really busy week. Lots of work already laid out and meetings scheduled for… everyday but Saturday. Haha. Well at least I’m enjoying all of this!

I missed breakfast this morning… and I swear sometime around lunch I heard someone whisper “Patrick”. I looked around and bet I looked frantic when I couldn’t find anyone trying to get my attention. I really need to make sure I don’t miss breakfast.

I’m really looking forward to going home and spending time with Ashley. We have so much to do at home still (like cleaning up and organizing papers/letters) but coming home to relax with her is the best part of my day.

So literally on the second day out of the gate and I am sick. Well… Ashley had been sick for a while now and I was sick not two weeks ago… figured I’d get it again eventually. At least this time it only really lasted a day. Nonetheless, we’ve stocked up on Ibuprofen and Benadryl. Today we stayed in (this time for a reason) and rested. Ordering in has become a habit… we should definitely break that asap.

Wednesday, June 29th

Woke up feeling better but I’m taking the Ibuprofen with me to work, just in case. Tons of email in both my Gmail and NYTimes account. Almost 200 were from our CloudSource system updating us on finished jobs and any warnings; and that’s just in one day!

One gem, though, was from LinkedIn. David Portnoy, founder of The Bring Initiative, LLC. (and currently heading the Bring Face project) gave me a wonderful recommendation.

“What impressed me about PJ from the very start was his ability to take a vague and difficult assignment, quickly break it up logically into component parts and design a plan to implement the solution. He has a great grasp of a range of web technologies, making it possible for him to help bring a new online service that integrates telephony, video, social networking and gaming from concept to pilot to production. PJ has a great attitude and a tireless work ethic. I’d definitely want him on my team.” June 29, 2011

Another interesting thing is a section on the right-hand side that is titled “Viewers of this profile also viewed…”.

Here’s the screenshot:

Do you see what I see? Architect, Engineer, Software Developer, Radio personality. Fun stuff. Also David Pirek, a Senior JavaScript Engineer at Google in the Greater New York City Area. Awesome. All of those things are directly related to what I want in my career. Well… the radio personality isn’t directly related but it’s a nice hobby.

Also randomly found penis and gaydar stories on CBSNews.com today:

I wrote what I thought would be a summary for today, but it became a full-out Journal entry about Google+.

Friday, July 1st

Got off work early today and so did Ashley! What did we do with our extra free time? We took a nap, of course! Get back some of that sleep we lose because we stay up for no real reason. For fun tonight we went out to the movie theater to watch Transformers 3 (Dark of the Moon)!

We had dinner at Heartland Brewery right across the street from The New York Times and then tried to see the movie in a theater around Times Square. Too bad they were all sold out! Luckily, Ashley pulled out her Android phone and checked out her movie app (Fandango, I think?) and found a theater not 10 blocks up. The place was called Clearview Cinemas and looked kind of shady at first. But the best part was that there were no lines (and almost no people!). Transformers in 3D was only $16.50 a person and since there were few people we could literally sit anywhere we wanted. What?! How did we find a gem like this in the city?

Since arrived early Ashley and I got our tickets and stopped off at a nearby Starbucks for some coffee and yummy rice krispy treats!

We got two, and Ashley said we should save one for the movie. We finished both before we made it back to the theater.

Transformers 3 was fun to watch. Nothing like The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars but worth the money. The 3D part was okay but nothing I couldn’t live without.

Clearview Cinemas was clearly awesome. I’ll even overlook the fact that their concession stand doesn’t serve slushies. Ashley and I have already booked tickets to see Harry Potter 7 Part 2 there. Center seats FTW!

Saturday, July 2nd

Hung out with Kofi, Cory, and Heather at a Mexican restaurant in the West Village. We traded stories about things we had done recently and reminisced about our college years. Ashley really likes the place and kind of wishes to live there… but honestly I much rather prefer Midtown West. Forgot to mention that Ashley and I had lunch here yesterday at a place called Peanut Butter & Co., where they serve all kinds of peanut butter sandwiches. Ashley had a plain ol’ PB&J while I had the Elvis: peanut butter & jelly with sliced bananas and bacon!

Such a simple yet delicious lunch.

I almost failed to mention that the nearby train station had an entire hallway devoted to True Blood.

Sunday, July 3rd

Somewhat lazy day. Finished some more unpacking. I finally put the drawers under the bed to use. I moved all of my computer stuff to the drawers and things are starting to look cleaner around my desk. Now all I need to do is actually clean up the desktop.

Played more Team Fortress 2 and I have refined my Spy game to the point where I can utterly decimate an entire team within seconds. I’ll put up videos soon. I’ve also started branching out to playing every other class. This game is truly fun. And quite addicting. Anybody got any hats they want to trade?!? lolol

I always enjoy time relaxing at home with Ashley. Tomorrow we’re going to celebrate the Fourth of July by going down to the river to watch the fireworks shows Macy’s puts on every year. Look out for those pictures next week!
